Google Maps ranking Google shows a few names first. Yours should be one of them.

Google Maps ranking is getting found in the map pack for the term your buyers actually type, in the towns you actually serve. It is part of The Pin. Where you started is recorded before a single field is changed, so the movement is yours to check.

The map

What sits inside it.

01

What Google says decides the map

Google says local results are mainly based on three things: how well the profile matches what someone typed, how far the business is from the person searching, and how well known the business is. Distance cannot be changed. The other two can.

02

Often one setting, not a hundred

It is often one setting rather than a hundred small things, and the first one I check is the primary category. A business listed in a broad category is at a disadvantage against one listed for the specific thing it sells.

03

Your address decides where you are strongest

Google ranks partly on how far the business is from the person searching, so a profile is strongest near its own address. A service area is set by town or postal code, and Google says it helps people find the profile. It does not say a service area will rank you in a town. The next town over is built as its own piece of work.

04

Measured the same way every time

Same grid, same radius, same term, same centre point, recorded before anything is touched and run again on the same settings. A measurement you can move is not a measurement.

The work

Done in order, then held.

Phase one

Agree the term

The search your buyers actually run - the work plus the town - agreed and written down.

Phase two

Record

Where you stand on that term today, on a locked grid, before anything is touched.

Phase three

Rebuild

The profile rebuilt against the businesses above you: the category, the services, the service area, the reviews, the same details everywhere.

Phase four

Hold

The same measurement, run again on the same settings. The trend is the story, not a single pin.

Questions

Before the nine minutes.

How long does Google Maps ranking take? +
Nobody can guarantee a place on Google, and Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What I put in writing is this. The Rank Lock: first page on the agreed term inside sixty days - ninety in the hardest markets - or the monthly pauses until it lands.
Why does a smaller competitor show up above me? +
Often because of one setting rather than a hundred small things, and the first one I check is the primary category. After that I look at whether the service area is set and at the reviews. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help a local ranking, and a profile with no recent reviews gives a buyer less reason to call.
Can I rank in the next town over as well? +
Sometimes, but do not count on it from one pin. Google ranks partly on how far the business is from the person searching, so a profile is strongest near its own address. For the next town over I build that town its own page and its own signals. That is offered after you have chosen a step and the home town is holding.
Is this the same as local SEO? +
It is the map half of it. Google Maps ranking sits inside The Pin, with the profile work and the reviews. Local SEO as I sell it is The Foundation: the Pin, plus Facebook and Instagram kept current, a desk that answers when you cannot, and every call and form counted.
What does it cost? +
Each step has a fixed price, said plainly on the nine minutes once I have seen what you have. You will not get a range from me before I have looked.
Where this sits

Google Maps ranking is not sold on its own. It sits inside The Pin, and the whole order is on how it works.

Which step fits where you are.

Nine minutes. I will already have looked at what you have, and each step has a fixed price, said plainly once I have seen it.
